The Young Everyman Playhouse class of 2025

Liverpool Everyman's award-winning Young Everyman Playhouse (YEP) has new partnerships for 2025, including the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Alder Hey Hospital, alongside fresh creative activity and a new class of young talent across its programmes.

Last year, YEP supported 85 young people, delivering over 6,000 contact hours and reaching more than 1,600 audience members.

The class of 2025 includes actors (14–17 & 18–25); technicians (14–17 & 18–25) and directors, producers and writers. Following the success of YEP 2024, the programme is expecting another busy year, including a production of The Snow Dragons by younger YEP performers on the Everyman’s main stage (July 11-12).

Updates to YEP this year include a refresh for YEP directors, in collaboration with the Young Advisors - when 18–25-year-olds get exclusive access to the rehearsal room on placement as YEP trainee assistant directors on one of the Everyman’s four home-grown shows. They will also train in weekly sessions with expert professionals. The year began with a masterclass led by the theatres’ creative direcYoung Everyman PLayhouse's class of 2025tor, Nathan Powell.

Liverpool-based theatre company All Things Considered is collaborating with YEP actors aged 18–25 to create a show for the EV1 Studio ( July 24-26).

After the success of the first YEP technicians 14–17 group last year, the programme is back and offering young people an introduction to the world of production arts.

The YEP Writers Showcase returns on October 17-18 with two directors, four actors, and five days in the rehearsal room to bring to life a selection of new works from this year’s writers' group.

YEP continues to foster partnerships that expand access to creative opportunities for young people across the region. One alliance is with the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama; YEP is collaborating

on a week of workshops, information sessions and backstage tours for 14 to 25-year-olds from across the North West (April 14-17).

Chris Bayes, who is access and participation manager of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, said: “ This exciting, week-long residency and formal partnership will hopefully encourage talented young people on the outstanding Young Everyman Playhouse programme from across the Liverpool City Region to develop an affinity with us, and join us as students in the future. "

Building on a long-standing partnership with the arts and health team at Alder Hey Hospital, YEP has launched a free youth theatre programme for young people aged 8–13 receiving outpatient care and facing challenges related to illness.

The sessions are designed to help participants connect with others, build resilience and and develop creative storytelling skills. Places are still open for those interested.
