After studying drama at Manchester University and then performing and coaching across the UK and Europe, Helen Spencer took a break from the stage to become a doctor and start a family. But her performing instincts will out and now Helen is launching York-based Wharfemede Productions to focus on musical theatre.

With Nick Sephton as chief operating officer - he comes from a managerial and computing background but loves music and theatre - the company will focus on character-driven musicals.

Their first venture sees them team up with (also) York-based Black Sheep Productions for The Last Five Years (National Centre for Early Music in York, October 17-19) by Tony award-winning American musical theatre composer Jason Robert Brown; a story of two New Yorkers falling in and out of love.

Helen said: "We are dedicated to bringing high quality musical productions and events to Yorkshire.”
