A festival of work by Welsh playwrights and a collaboration with London’s Royal Court will reopen Theatre Clwyd to indoor audiences in June for the first time in over a year.
The leading Welsh theatre offers three premieres in its comeback season, as well as a three-week festival of new Welsh writing and an outdoor stage for the summer featuring theatre, dance, comedy and family shows.
Indoor performances, from mid June, will follow the expected relaxation of the restrictions in Wales on May 17, but - just in case - they will all be switchable to online or outdoor performance.
Artistic director Tamara Harvey said of the plans: “Theatres in Wales are finally able to open, but whatever happens, we will make theatre. It’s time.”
The season opens with the premiere of Alan Harris’ comedy For the Grace of You Go I (June 12-25), with a filmed version available later.
Playwright Kaite O’Reilly’s modern-day adaptation of Strindberg’s Miss Julie, titled Missing Julie, will run from Sep 16-Oct 9.
The season will also include Tim Price’s new play Isla (Oct 16-nov 6), co-produced with London’s Royal Court.
Theatr Clwyd will also stage a three-week festival of new work from 15 Welsh playwrights, Curtain Up, from Aug 16-Sep 4.
