Drag star The Vivienne will play the Wicked Witch of the West in the post-London Palladium tour of classic musical The Wizard of Oz, at Liverpool Empire (Dec 13-January 7, 2024) and the Manchester Palace (April 24-May 25).
Other dates for The Vivienne's appearances include the New Theatre, Hull (January 24-27), Sheffield Lyceum (January 30-February 3), Venue Cymru, Llandudno (March 5-10), Bradford Alhambra (March 19-23), Newcastle Theatre Royal (April 16-21) and Sunderland Empire (August 6-11). Comedy and musicals stars Gary Wilmot also appears in the show in Llandudno and Bradford.
The Vivienne says: “The Wizard of Oz means everything to me, it’s the ultimate story of overcoming adversity. I first saw the movie aged five and I’ve probably seen it about 100 times since. I played The Tin Man at primary school and got to skate to Over The Rainbow on Dancing on Ice, so it’s fair to say I’ve had a life-long love affair with the story."
After emerging as the original champion of the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, The Vivienne has become an international star. She was the first drag star to appear on a major UK reality competition series – Dancing On Ice, and was the face and voice of the Eurovision Song Contest trailers, as well as performing Waterloo at the opening ceremony in Liverpool.
Featuring the iconic original score from the Oscar-winning MGM film - including Over The Rainbow, Follow The Yellow Brick Road and We're Off To See the Wizard - the show has additional songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
