Charlie Hiscock - currently best known as Will Kitman, the chap who gets the mud off the boots in the Apple+ hit comedy series Ted Lasso - will make his stage debut at Manchester's Hope Mill Theatre, in Glorious! The True Story Of The Worst Singer In The World next month (February 27-March 30).

Charlie said: “I’m truly honoured to be making my stage debut in this incredible play and I couldn’t have imagined a better place than back home, up north at the Hope Mill Theatre. ”

Written by Peter Quilter (End of the Rainbow) and directed by Kirk Jameson (Song from Far Away, I Am Harvey Milk) Glorious! is the true story of American socialite Florence Foster Jenkins, dubbed "the worst singer in the world", who was known for her flamboyant costumes and decidedly off-key voice.

The show stars the previously-announced Wendi Peters, and also joining the cast will be Anita Booth (Fatal Attraction, The Entertainer), Ella Maria Danson and George Miller.

As well as his role in the Golden Globe-winning Ted Lasso, Charlie's other credits include the Academy Award-nominated film Poor Things, in which he can be seen opposite Willem Dafoe; The Borrowers (BBC) with Stephen Fry, Victoria Wood and Christopher Ecclestone, and Secret Life of Boys (CBBC). He has just finished filming for the new series of Black Mirror (Netflix), and can also be seen on BBC/Netflix’s new drama Red Rose.

Nominated for best new comedy at the 2006 Olivier Awards, Glorious! follows Florence as she prepares for her concerts, builds an unlikely friendship with her accompanist Cosme McMoon, and pursues her passion.

As her recitals gained a devoted following in 1940s New York (including admirers such as Enrico Caruso and Cole Porter), they became must-see events, culminating in a sold-out show at Carnegie Hall, at which Florence performed Mozart in angel wings and a halo.
