St Helens Theatre Royal was to have returned with its socially-distanced production of Beauty and the Beast in February for the school half term.
But the latest government pandemic restrictions have forced the theatre to drop the plan.
The show recently ran for Christmas from December 11 and was due to finish on January 3, but was closed early on December 30 when pandemic restrictions were originally toughened.
The Covid-safe show, which starred Olivia Sloyan as Belle and Andrew Geater as the Beast, was to have run during the school half-term from February 13-21.
Patrons who bought tickets will receive a refund. Audiences who missed the show at Christmas also have the option to watch a recording of the Christmas Eve show online at home until the end of January (extended from January 10). Tickets can be bought here.
St Helens Theatre Royal was one of the few venues across the UK able to open for a Christmas pantomime after a nine-month closure due to the pandemic.
