Producers at St Helen's Theatre Royal are celebrating record-breaking box-office results for their panto Aladdin, which closed last night after 69 performances since December 2.
The seasonal production, from panto producers Regal Entertainments, was their best-selling and fastest-selling panto, with over 37,000 tickets.
Emmerdale’s Liam Fox made his professional panto debut as the evil Abanazer, and queen of the local airwaves, Leanne Campbell, appeared on video as the Genie of the Mirror. They were joined by local favourites Tim Lucas, Warren Donnelly, Lewis Devine and Richard Aucott, with newcomers Jess Smith and Alex Aram.
Director Chantelle Nolan - who is also the theatre manager - said: "We are completely blown away by the response and success of our show, officially breaking all the venue's box office records. It’s seen the most incredible responses from audience members and the media alike. I couldn’t be prouder."
Regal Entertainments has been entertaining the St Helens area and producing pantomimes since 1999 (and previously as Crown Productions, since 1994).
The Theatre Royal is a popular venue for panto, offering several a year during major school holiday breaks. Fans won't have long to wait until the next one, The Wizard of Oz, opening on February 10, or the Easter one, Goldilocks, from March 29.
