Sooty is going back to Blackpool – to celebrate where his career began 75 years ago!
The Sooty Show will be at Blackpool Grand Theatre in March 2024 (31-April 1) for the famous yellow glove puppet’s 75th anniversary year.
Sooty is 75 today, July 19; he was bought in Blackpool by Harry Corbett OBE in 1948, when he was looking for ways to entertain his children on their summer holiday.
The legendary yellow glove puppet began performing with Harry on the BBC from 1952, before being passed down to his son Matthew in the 1970s-90s.
For the last 25 years, Sooty has partnered entertainer Richard Cadell on stage and screen – and millions of children have continued to fall for the playful bear and his sensible sister Soo and sausage-loving pal Sweep the dog.
Sooty, Soo and Sweep are planning a special birthday party for Blackpool – and in true Sooty style, nothing will go to plan.
Special guests will also join the stars: Butch the bulldog, Ramsbottom the snake and circus performer Michael Jordan, who will join the fun direct from Blackpool’s Tower Circus.
With lots of audience participation, the celebration of the longest-running children’s television show in the world will delight Sooty fans old and new.
The Blackpool show is a major stop on a wide-ranging tour that will run from the autumn, visiting Bradford, Stockport, Salford, St Helens, Halifax, Chester and many other UK venues
