Chester's Storyhouse arts centre has won funding to expand its solar energy installation by installing more rooftop solar panels.

In partnership with the Wolfson Foundation, the Theatres Trust has given almost £116,000 to six theatres, including Storyhouse, to support their moves towards environmental sustainability.

The installation of more solar panels will triple the theatre's solar energy capacity, resulting in reduced carbon emissions, enhanced self-sustained power generation and cost savings.

Kate Mylchreest, director of development for the building, said "This will enable us to implement projects aimed at reducing energy consumption, enhancing operational sustainability and reinvesting savings into our artistic and community programme."

Storyhouse is a theatre, cinema, library and community hub, the latter very useful during the winter months, when it participates in the Warm Hub initiative, welcoming residents from across the borough to come in and stay warm.
