A new "reimagined" production of Shrek The Musical will open in Manchester more than a year from now (August 1-12, 2023).
Though the show will first run at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, in July 2023, the official opening and press night for the UK tour will be at the Opera House, Manchester on August 3, with other dates still to be announced.
The producers say they have reimagined the show - which premiered on Broadway in 2008 - for a new audience. Helping them do it will be actor and director Sam Holmes who will co-direct after playing Lord Farquaad in a previous UK tour,
Sam will be joined by director and choreographer Nick Winston, whose recent credits include Bonnie and Clyde in London and the UK tour of Beauty and the Beast.
Producer Mark Goucher said: "The story of Shrek is known and loved across the world and this show is an incredibly joyous, fun and uplifting evening at the theatre that will be enjoyed by all ages"
