Shrek paints 31 towns green

A new production of Shrek The Musical launches in July for a 31-venue UK tour, featuring northern dates including Manchester Opera House (August 1-12); The Sands, Carlisle (September 5-10); Alhambra, Bradford (October 24-28); Grand Opera House, York (November 27-December 2); Winter Gardens, Blackpool (December 12-30), and Liverpool Empire (February 12-17, 2024).

Anthony Lawrence takes the title role after recently playing Scar in The Lion King, while Joanne Clifton – best known for her time on Strictly Come Dancing – plays his beloved Princess Fiona. Olivier Award-nominated James Gillan is evil Lord Farquaad and, fresh from Dreamgirls, Brandon Lee Sears plays Donkey.

From the producers of Hairspray and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Shrek brings together a new creative team to take a new look at the show while featuring all the classic characters from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film.

The tour opens in Plymouth on July 21 but the official "press" night is in Manchester on August 3.
