Yorkshire's Thunder Road Theatre has announced a 2024 autumn tour of Shock Horror - the third and largest outing for the popular ghost story.

Thunder Road Theatre specialises in original horror shows with multimedia and illusion. The company began in 2012, reimagining cult novels, and worked with Harrogate Theatre from 2014-19.

Described as "Stranger Things meets The Woman in Black" and inspired by classic theatre and cinema ghost stories, Shock Horror is a chilling journey into a haunted past combining live performance and big-screen action, shivers, shrieks and shocks.

Herbert grew up in the eerie Metropol cinema, where late-night horror films were his main window on the world. Forbidden to leave by his disturbed parents, Herbert hid in its shadows and gorged on its movies. But what lurked in the Metropol’s darkness? And how did he manage to escape? Now he's back, searching for answers to long-buried questions. But the real horror has only just begun…

Shock Horror opens in September and northern dates include Northern Stage in Newcastle (October 15-16) and Edge Hill Arts Centre - part of Edge Hill University - in Ormskirk (November 4-5)

The cast includes Alex Moran (War Horse), also the show's producer, as Herbert, Chloe Proctor (Emmerdale, Doctors) as Norma, Joseph Carter as Jack (Hollyoaks) and Chris Blackwood as Karras (Miss Julie, The Little Mermaid). The show was written and is directed by Yorkshire-based playwright and filmmaker Ryan Simons (Eastenders, Emmerdale).

Alex Moran said: “We’re delighted with the excitement the show has generated since it began. We can’t wait to start scaring again!”
