Open Day at Merseyside's Shakespeare North Playhouse on November 2 (11am-4pm) will mark the culmination of the year-long Our Town’s Sound project, which has explored the evolution of local language and dialects through collaboration with schools, community groups, artists, and historians.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s contribution of more than over 750 words and phrases to the English language, the project has uncovered insights into how words and phrases have shaped the region's identity.

The open day invites the community to dive into this unique cultural history with hands-on activities, exhibitions and live performances.

Highlights of the day Include storytelling with Og the Giant for ages 4-8 and 8-11; drama games and interactive theatre games for children aged 4-8 and 8-11; arts and crafts, writing sessions, interactive games and audio recording sessions for all ages, and interactive installations from Focal Studios, blending words, sounds, and visuals.

The day will also feature art and audio-visual installations by Emmer Winder and Dave Bixter, featuring work by local schools and young people, short films created by local youth exploring language heritage;

an illustration showcase by Toni-Louise Carter, documenting the Our Town’s Sound project, and live performances – short theatre pieces from Act for Action and Buzz Hub, inspired by local language.

The theatre will also offer behind the scenes access to the playhouse and Cockpit Theatre. Tickets for the workshops are free but advance booking is recommended.
