Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre will present favourite musical Singin" in the Rain this Christmas - from the same director, Raz Shaw, who made the theatre's show The Producers a hit in 2018.
The renowned musical completes the 2025 season alongside the world premiere of Ntombizodwa Nyoni’s powerful new play Liberation, and the Exchange’s first co-production with Sheffield Theatres for Brian Friel’s Olivier- and Tony award-winning play Dancing at Lughnasa, the Exchange's first-ever staging of the play.
Away from the theatre's city centre home, its pop-up space The Den will bring theatre to the doorsteps of communities in Tameside and Leigh, Atherton & Tyldesley through spring and summer.
Due to popular demand, the Exchange has extended its current show - Mike Leigh’s Abigail's Party, starring Kym Marsh, which opened last night - until Saturday May 24.
But heading into the new season, the theatre again play a part in the Manchester International Festival with the world premiere of Liberation (June 27-July 26), directed by Monique Touko, which explores the 1945 Pan-African Congress, 80 years after its residency in Manchester.
Dancing at Lughnasa astonished audiences and critics alike when it premiered in 1990, depicting the complexities of family life in rural Ireland. The show will be directed by former Bolton Octagon artistic director Elizabeth Newman and runs at the Exchange from October 10-November 8.
One of the greatest film musicals ever - and no slouch on stage either - Singin' in the Rain is sure to be a popular Royal Exchange Christmas show choice for the panto-averse. Director Raz Shaw returns with a thrilling new version of show, inspired by the classic Hollywood film and running from November 29-January 18.
