Liverpool’s Royal Court is to continue its search for new scriptwriting talent with a second year of its playwright development programme. The scheme is now looking for writers keen to take part.
Since November 2018, the theatre has run Stage Wright Nights in the Royal Court studio, when scripts can be submitted to be read by professional actors with a professional director. The sessions have been the starting point for a number of studio and main house productions.
To find new writers the organising team, led by producer Jess Bolger, last year set up the playwright development programme, which ran for nine months, at first in person but eventually online.
The new course, free and open to anyone living or studying on Merseyside, will begin in February, two evenings a month for nine months.
To apply, individuals must submit a 10-page sample of their writing for theatre. All entries will be read and shortlisted candidates will be invited to meet the Stage Write team, either face to face or online. The application closing date is Monday, November 30.
Writers can email stagewrite@royalcourtliverpool.com or go here for more details.
