St Helens-born Emmerdale actor Michael Parr returns to Liverpool with a star cast in the raucous comedy Rita, Sue & Bob Too, following a record-breaking run in his home town.
Rita, Sue & Bob Too will run at the Epstein Theatre (February 11-19) and also stars Liverpool comedian Crissy Rock and Hollyoaks' Jessica Ellis.
Rita and Sue are two working-class girls from a run-down council estate (based on Dunbar's own, in Bradford), who in their final year at school embark on affairs with the same married man, Bob, for whom they do some babysitting.
Andrea Dunbar wrote the original 1982 play and most of the subsequent movie, five years later - but didn't it when other writers were brought in to give the film a happier ending. No such problem with the over-18s-only play, which features a brilliantly raw, funny script and an impressive cast - not to mention a fine soundtrack of 1980s pop.
The production has seen previous runs at St Helens Theatre Royal, where it broke box office records in 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016.
Michael Parr will play Bob and will be joined by a cast that includes comedian Crissy Rock as Mother and Jamie Greer as Dad, along with Jessica Ellis as Bob's wife Michelle, Jenna Sian O’Hara as Sue and Kay Nicholson as Rita.
Michael Parr is best known for his award-winning portrayal of village bad boy and thug Ross Barton in ITV’s Emmerdale. He said: "I had so much fun playing Bob in St Helens that I couldn’t refuse when I was asked to perform the show in Liverpool."
