Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse clocked up a record Christmas season with 51,000 people through the doors for pantomime Red Riding Hood and musical SIX, which enjoyed 96 per cent of capacity for its 100 performances.
The two productions attracted audiences of all ages, with Red Riding Hood seen by over 8,000 children and young people attending as families, schools and youth groups.
Global sensation SIX benefited not just the theatres but also the local economy, as 42 per cent of its audience travelled from outside Liverpool's city region, with many staying overnight.
Everyman and Playhouse CEO Mark Da Vanzo said: “After a challenging few Christmas seasons due to Covid, we’ve been thrilled at the extraordinary success of this year’s festive season."
The theatres’ recently-appointed creative director Suba Das – who was in charge of Red Riding Hood – added: “What a way to say hello to Liverpool! I couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome and I hope I’ve taken good care of the iconic Everyman rock ’n’ roll panto for our audiences. I’m pleased to announce that next Christmas I’ll be directing Cinderella."
