A major new musical adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s best-selling book Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book is coming to Salford's Lowry theatre next month (July 23-August 4).
The show, produced by The Lowry, Little Angel Theatre and Kingston's Rose Theatre, reunites adaptors Barb Jungr and Samantha Lane (who also directs) following their collaboration on the Olivier-nominated Donaldson and Scheffler storyThe Smartest Giant in Town.
Their new show is about book-lover Charlie, whose sister hates reading. By showing her the excitement he gets from his favourite stories about pirates and other subjects, he tries to convince her she would have just as much fun reading about her favourite things. The show brings the stories to life with puppets and other visuals.
Julia Donaldson said: "I'm delighted that Little Angel Theatre has adapted Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book for the stage. The book celebrates the joy of reading in many forms - books, magazines and even encyclopaedias. It's a book within a book within a book - in fact there are 11 books in total, complete with pirates, ghosts, dragons and aliens, to name a few. I'm excited that the production will travel across the UK this year.
