It’s second star on the right and straight on to The Lowry in Salford next Christmas as Peter Pan flies over the Pennines for a re-run of this year’s Leeds Playhouse spectacular.
Director Jonathan Munby’s production of Wendy & Peter Pan – currently at the Playhouse until January 22 - is an international co-production between Bunkamura in Tokyo and Leeds Playhouse. It will open at The Lowry on December 3, 2022 until January 8, 2023.
The spectacularly-staged retelling of the JM Barrie classic features flying and sword fighting, a pirate ship and a rejigged story that puts Wendy very much to the fore. Writer/adaptor Ella Hickson says: “The arrival of Wendy and her excellent gang into The Lowry next year is hugely exciting.
“I have so much love for little Wendy Darling, who takes her brothers to Neverland to try and bring happiness back to her family.
“Wendy's adventures with Peter Pan remind us all of the joys of never having to grow up. This production is a riot, with something for everyone. It's a joy to know we'll get to see it again next year."
Director Munby says: “I’m overjoyed we are bringing the show to The Lowry. It’s a thrilling new telling of this classic story that appeals to boys and girls and anyone who has felt they don’t quite fit!
“This new production marks the next step on our journey with this beautiful play, which is the culmination of a number of years of work and an extraordinary collaboration that started life in Tokyo this summer."
This Christmas The Lowry has The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (to January 15, 2022).
