Papatango in Oldham 2022

Three award-winning new audio plays from the Papatango New Writing Prize will be at Oldham Coliseum from February 1-4 – the penultimate date on an extensive UK tour.

In a reimagined version of the annual awards in partnership with English Touring Theatre, the audio productions will play from free listening stations in theatres, with copies of the scripts, including braille translations, available.

Audiences can book a free slot to listen to the plays in the Coliseum auditorium using a device provided by the theatre, or on their own phone and headphones if they prefer.

The three award-winning audio productions are: Some Of Us Exist in The Future by Nkenna Akunna, The Silence and The Noise by Tom Powell and Ghost Stories from an Old Country by Tajinder Singh Hayer.

Find out more about the plays here.

Papatango discovers and champions new playwrights, especially people who would otherwise have no route into theatre, through a range of free opportunities open to anyone in the UK and Ireland, and anonymously assessed.

The organisation (see here) attracts over 1,500 entries a year from every region, and guarantees its winner a full production, publication, commission and royalties, while every entrant receives personal feedback.
