Following an intensive, 12-week training programme for aspiring producers, directors and writers, Manchester-based Pai Academy presents its showcase of four new short plays celebrating the Greater Manchester creative community.

The Academy provides a platform for honing skills guided by mentors - including former Manchester Library Theatre co-director Roger Haines - and guest speakers. The final showcase production links graduates with industry professionals.

The plays this time are:

Now That’s What I Call… The Afterlife by Tiffany Bowman. Jessica is consumed by grief after the tragic loss of her daughter. In search of solace, she clings to a custom-made vinyl record.

Supporting Actress by James Anthony. Sam's preciously simple life is put at risk by the visit of the local health care worker who must determine whether he can live independently or return to the secure unit.

Release the Doves by Faye Bennett and Mya Kettle. Three sisters are planning their mother's funeral. A story of love, loss and discovery.

Three Weeks Notice by Paris Rogers. When Mia’s boyfriend asks for three weeks to decide their future, she agrees but as time runs out, the balance of power shifts in unexpected ways.

You can see the showcase at The Edge, Manchester Road, Chorlton (April 3-5).
