Open Season is the Leeds Playhouse annual celebration of community creativity and the 2025 festival (June 26-July 19) is a chance for individual performers and groups from across Leeds City Region to act, sing and dance at one of the most prestigious regional theatres in the country.
The Open Season theme for 2025 is A Leeds United, inspired by Through it All Together (June 23-July 19) a new play by Leeds playwright Chris O’Connor about former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa, the beautiful game and the bond that unites families and friends.
“Performers can interpret the theme in whatever way they like. It’s just a jumping off point for their creativity,” says Lily Craig, creative communities producer at the Playhouse. "We can’t wait to see the amazing performances it inspires.”
You needn't be a performer to take part in Open Season: community-led events such as open mic sessions, celebrations, exhibitions and kitchen takeovers are also part of the programme, making it a festival everyone can get involved in.
“All you need is a great idea,” added Lily. “We will read all the proposals and offer the space and dates available. We’re going to include as many local performers and groups as we can, so why not give it a go?”
Performers and event organisers need to tell the Playhouse about their idea by filling in the form here.
The deadline is January 31, 2025; everyone will be informed by March 1 if their performance is going to be part of the programme.
If you would like to apply for a spot but would like more guidance, the Playhouse is hosting two information sessions: in-person on January 10 (3pm-4 pm) and online (January 15, 11.30am-12.30pm). Email connect@leedsplayhouse.org.uk to book your place.
