The Octagon Theatre in Bolton is to present its first live streamed production.

The theatre is collaborating with Guildford Shakespeare Company on a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to be presented online from September 24-27.

The 75min version of the comedy is based on GSC’s 2017 open-air production directed (then and now) by Lotte Wakeham, now the Octagon’s artistic director.

The show will be streamed live on Zoom and has a cast of six, with Jack Whitam, Emma Tenney, Sarah Gobran and Matt Pinches from the 2017 production making their Bolton debuts, alongside Misha Duncan-Barry and Nathan Ives-Moiba.

Wakeham said: “We’ve had fantastic feedback from our audiences about other online content during lockdown, so it felt like a natural next step to try a full production.”

GSC co-founder Matt Pinches added: “Dream, with its accessible storyline, beautiful speeches and laugh-out-loud comedy, was an obvious choice. We worked with Lotte when she directed this ttruly magical show for us in 2017 and so it seemed a natural union to make with Bolton.“

Tickets will be on sale from tomorrow (September 3) at £20 per device (maximum two viewers per device or £10 for each additional viewer).
