Liverpool's own Paul O’Grady is to star again as Miss Hannigan in musical Annie at Liverpool Empire next summer (June 5-10) as part of its extensive UK tour.

BAFTA award-winning TV, radio and stage star O'Grady returns to the musical having first played Miss Hannigan during a London season in 1998. On television he is best known as the host of ITV’s Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, Paul O’Grady’s Great British Escape, The Paul O’Grady Show and Channel 4’s Blind Date.

Strictly judge and theatre performer and director Craig Revel Harwood has also played Miss Hanningan in the show before, and has announced a return to the character when the musical reaches Venue Cymru in Llandudno next May (15-20). He will also appear at other venues on the tour.

In 1930s New York during The Great Depression, brave young Annie is forced to live a life of misery and torment at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. Determined to find her real parents, her luck changes when she is chosen to spend Christmas at the residence of famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. The score includes hit songs It’s the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You and Tomorrow.
