Nuts to the Nutcracker

Stand by for an explosion of cabaret camp as The Glitter Bomb Dancers make their their debut, with a full-length Christmas show, premiering at The Dukes, Lancaster December 16.

Cracked Nuts is said to be based on classical ballet The Nutcracker, but not as we know it. Performed by a cast of 16, it features sugar plum fairies, toy soldiers and snowflakes, all with a drag comedy twist.

The company is a new LGBTQIA+ cabaret dance group based in Leeds, combining dance with pop and spandex, co-directed by Joseph Mercier, Imogen Reeve (artistic director, Excessive Human Collective) and Matthew Robinson (artistic director, National Dance Company of Wales).

"We try to follow much of the original Nutcracker story, but the dancers are too easily distracted by the camp anthems of their favourite pop diva - and any opportunity to just be fabulous," said a spokesman.
