Simon Stephens is to be the new executive director at Keswick's Theatre by the Lake.
Currently head of commercial and visitor experience at Contact Theatre in Manchester, where in 2021 he oversaw the theatre's reopening campaign after a £6m redevelopment, he will begin his new job in mid-March. Before that he was commercial manager at the Everyman and Playhouse in Liverpool.
Simon will work alongside TBTL artistic director Liz Stevenson, growing TBTL as a leading cultural hub with a programme of home-produced and touring theatre and community events.
He said: “I’m delighted to be joining Theatre by the Lake and relishing the opportunity to work with Liz to produce outstanding work and embed the theatre as a welcoming, vibrant hub at the heart of the Keswick community.”
Liz Stevenson said “Simon's passion, drive and experience will help us to secure the theatre’s future as a vital centre of creativity for Cumbria - and as a producing theatre whose work is celebrated on the national stage."
