A hit when it debuted at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in 2013, New Dawn Fades - chronicling the late 1970s music scene and the story of Joy Division - has since toured regularly and is now back with northern dates at the Bowdon Rooms, Altrincham (October 9); The Edge, Wigan (October 15); The Met, Bury (October 16-17); Royal Northern College of Music (October 18-19) and City Varieties in Leeds (October 22). The opening date is already almost sold out.
The show tells the story of the four ordinary lads who, inspired by the punk revolution of 1970s Manchester, teamed up to form Joy Division, one of the most influential bands of the time, despite releasing a mere two studio albums. Following the untimely death of lead singer Ian Curtis, the band of course went on to huge worldwide success as New Order.
The show is written and directed by the award-winning Brian Gorman, who also reprises his role as legendary Granada TV presenter/Factory Records boss Tony Wilson and guides the audience through the heart and soul of the band and the city, introducing Roman General Julius Agricola, Dr John Dee, Frederich Engels, Paul Morley and Pete Shelley of The Buzzcocks along the way. It was that kind of band; it's that kind of city...
