Bolton's Octagon theatre has appointed a new associate director – comedy and family theatre director and writer Georgia Murphy (pictured) . Georgia trained at Ecole Philippe Gaulier, south of Paris, and has worked as an assistant director with several well-known companies and directors. She is also an associate artist with Spymonkey, the Brighton-based comedy and physical theatre company.
Georgia's work with Mouths of Lion, the company she founded in 2013, has been staged at many London venues and has toured the UK and internationally. Georgia will contribute to the Octagon’s output over the next year, and will make her directorial debut there with festive show A Christmas Carol. Octagon artistic director Lotte Wakeham said: “Georgia will be a real asset to the organisation over the next 12 months. She’s an incredibly talented director with extensive experience in comedy, new writing and family work." Georgia added: “I've always admired the Octagon's ambitious programming and this year is no exception. I know I’m going to learn a lot as associate here – and I’m really looking forward to directing this year’s Christmas family musical. "
