My Fair Lady bows out at the Palace

The latest US revival of classic Broadway musical My Fair Lady tops off a UK tour with a visit to the Manchester Palace from March 22-April 1 2023.

Featuring EastEnders' Adam Woodyatt as rascally dustman Aldred Doolittle, the production won rave reviews from a London season and earlier UK tour dates.

Other casting includes Michael D Xavier as Henry Higgins, Charlotte Kennedy as Eliza Doolittle, Heather Jackson as Mrs Higgins, John Middleton as Colonel Pickering and Tom Liggins as Freddy Eynsford-Hill.

Directed by Bartlett Sher, the production premiered in 2018 at New York's Lincoln Center, won the Tony award for Best Costume Design and five Outer Critics’ Circle awards, including Best Musical Revival.

Adapted from George Bernard Shaw's play Pigmalion, My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady”.

With a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, the show boasts a score that includes I Could Have Danced All Night, Get Me to the Church on Time, Wouldn’t It Be Luverly, On the Street Where You Live, The Rain in Spain, and I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face.

My Fair Lady has had many notable revivals and adaptations, including an acclaimed 1964 film starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison that won eight Oscars, including Best Picture.
