Mega musical Miss Saigon returns to the Manchester Palace Theatre a year from now (November 4-15 2025), as part of a new UK tour. The only other northern dates so far announced are Leeds Grand Theatre, (November 18-29 2025) and Newcastle Theatre Royal (October 4-25, 2025).
Producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh said: “35 years after Boublil and Schonberg’s legendary musical first opened to international success, I'm delighted this powerful love story has remained timeless. The story of an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl, who fall in love as their lives are torn apart by war, has become a worldwide hit.
"The recent, hugely successful Sheffield Crucible production took a contemporary look at this great musical and that has inspired producer Michael Harrison and I to also take a fresh look and create a modern version that can play many theatres the original was unable to visit."
Directing the new production will be Jean-Pierre van der Spuy, who recently directed the acclaimed Australian Opera production.
In the last days of the Vietnam War, 17-year-old Kim is forced to work in a Saigon bar run by a notorious character known as The Engineer. There she falls in love with an American GI, Chris, but they are torn apart by the fall of Saigon. For three years Kim endures epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea he has fathered a son.
Since its London premiere in 1989, Cameron Mackintosh’s original production of the show has became one of the most successful musicals in history, performed in 378 cities in 33 countries, in 15 different languages (winning 75 major awards (including two Oliviers, three Tonys and four Drama Desk awards in the process), and has been seen by over 38 million people.
