New initiative MIF Sounds will see the Manchester International Festival festival pledge £10,000 to support 10 Greater Manchester music industry practitioners in developing new lockdown projects, from recording music to presenting a socially-distanced gig or releasing a record.
Jane Beese, the organisation’s head of music explained “MIF wants to support Manchester’s music industry affected by the pandemic. Maybe you need help to make or complete a recording project or you are a label promoting new releases, or a promoter looking for support to present a socially-distanced gig with a small audience with a live stream. We want to hear from you.”
People from all areas of the music industry in Greater Manchester can apply to MIF Sounds by noon on October 2 here.
Meanwhile the latest iteration of MIF’s Festival in My House… Or Yours scheme will offer six artists £1,800 each to host digital events, from voguing parties (the latest intricate, acrobatic form of a stylised dance form that originated in the Eighties), to poetry performances and disco cookouts.
Artists working in any genre and any style who are Greater Manchester residents can apply for support for Festival in My House projects by noon on October 8 here. Successful applicants will be chosen by a community panel and will also receive mentoring and training opportunities.
