The Rubbish Shakespeare Company joins forces with Silly History Boys for the first UK tour of The Story Forge: Make Your Own Myth, an immersive, all-ages family show in which two larger-than-life history professors and a live musician make new myths from children's ideas at each venue.
The "choose your own adventure" format uses a flexible, scripted framework, so each show reflects the local community as stories are drawn from their imaginations and experiences. The shows have been wildly praised and described as "Horrible Histories on steroids"...
Artistic director Lee Hithersay said: "Honestly, the kids steal the show every time and we wouldn't have it any other way! They're the real stars.
"Only 35 per cent of eight to18-year-olds actually read for pleasure, and that's crazy! We think a big reason is the lack of fresh, original stories out there for them, so we're doing our bit to change that by creating three new stories at every show!"
The tour begins on February 15 (Ellesmere Port, Theatre Porto), and features 74 programmed performances at 43 venues across the UK, as well as 35 creative workshops. Northern venues include York, Liverpool, Leeds, Darwen, Whitworth, Burnley, Bolton, Southport, Chorley, Runcorn, Beverley, Newcastle and Hexham.
