The annual free open day at Salford's Lowry on August 6 (10am-5pm) , will offer backstage tours that include a chance to stand on the Lyric Theatre stage - the largest in the UK outside London - as well as stand-up comedy master classes, family-friendly gallery tours, gin cocktail-making and music and dancing on the outdoor plaza.
Lowry Partner companies Rambert, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The National Theatre and Opera North will run free workshops and offer opportunities to get hands-on. There’s also cupcake making, outdoor games, family craft sessions, story-telling and more.
Last year’s Lowry open day attracted 4,500 visitors – 1,300 of whom enjoyed backstage tours, with 1,200 visiting the complex's art galleries.
In the galleries this year there's the permanent LS Lowry exhibition, and families will also be able to see Julia and Axel: 30 Years of Favourite Stories, a free, family-friendly exhibition celebrating the acclaimed picture-book partnership between writer Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler.
Some events - more of which will be announced soon - need to be pre-booked but many are drop-in and free on the day.
