HOME Manchester has found its cast for a Christmas run of Little Women (December 8-23).
Adapted by screenwriter, novelist and playwright Anne-Marie Casey from Louisa May Alcott’s novel, the story follows the lives of the March family members.
Mother Marmee will be played by Kacey Ainsworth of EastEnders, Grantchester and Call the Midwife fame, while her daughters Meg, tomboy Jo, sensitive Beth and spoilt Amy will be played by Jessica Brydges (Around the World in Eighty Days), Rachael McAllister (Brief Encounter), Meg Chaplin (Sunshine on Leith) and Julia Brown (BBC World on Fire) respectively.
The family cast members are joined by stage and screen actor Daniel Francis-Swaby in the leading role of Laurie. TV, radio and stage actor Susan Twist (Coronation Street and The Archers) is the redoubtable Aunt March and Tom Richardson will play Professor Friedrich Bhaer and John Brooke.
The production stems from the Pitlochry Theatre and is directed by Brigid Larmour – whose recent The Merchant of Venice 1936 was a sell-out at HOME last year and returns in November after a season at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford.
