Leeds Playhouse has cancelled or postponed productions scheduled to begin before May 9.

This includes the postponement of the Playhouse and Opera North’s co-production of A Little Night Music, due to begin rehearsals this Monday and to open on May 9.

The Playhouse buildings are closed for the foreseeable future. It has also paused all creative engagement and artist development sessions.

People with tickets for productions up to May 9 and for A Little Night Music are being contacted to discuss a refund, credit or making a donation to the Playhouse, which is a registered charity.

“When this is all over, people will need their theatre; they will need to come together, to experience something joyful and to reclaim this wonderful building,” said joint chief executives James Brining and Robin Hawkes. “We want to come out the other side stronger and more resilient than ever."

The pair added: “We are working hard to ensure everyone involved with the Playhouse, in whatever capacity, feels informed and supported at this very difficult time. We remain determined to safeguard the future of the Playhouse so we can continue to support the communities of the Leeds City Region and beyond. We thank everyone for their kind messages of support."
