After establishing itself in the company's native Yorkshire, young Mytholmroyd-based dance-theatre Northern Rascals recently made its London debut to great acclaim and returns to Leeds in January for a pre-tour show of its latest production, SHED.
The dance work comes from a gritty, multi-disciplinary company using digital art, spoken word and contemporary dance to raise awareness of mental health issues among young people.
For its first date of 2024, SHED will be performed at Leeds’ Riley Theatre on January 27. More UK tour dates are currently being organised.
SHED is performed by a cast of four in an on-stage structure, with audience members able to stand outside and look in as real-life experiences are told in three linked shorts, each giving a different insight into the stories that make us.
SHED was created by Anna Holmes and Sam Ford, co-artistic directors of Northern Rascals, and performed by Grace Ford, Flora Grant, Ed Mitchell and Soul Roberts, with voice actors Lamin Touray, Brendan Barclay and Anna Holmes.
Northern Rascals was created by Holmes and Ford in 2017 and uses theatre and dance to explore various elements of the current socio-political climate.
