The Society for Theatre Research is calling for final submissions for the Theatre Book Prize 2024.

Established in 1998 to celebrate the society’s Golden Jubilee, this is the 26th iteration of the competition, which aims to encourage the writing and publication of books on British-related theatre history and practice.

Recent winners include An Actor’s Life In 12 Productions by Oliver Ford Davies; Stirring Up Sheffield: The Battle to Build the Crucible Theatre, by Colin and Tedd George; Black British Women’s Theatre, by Nicola Abrams, and Year of the Mad King: The King Lear Diaries, by Antony Sher. The deadline for entries is near: January 20. If you have an eligible title, published in 2023 but not yet submitted, contact theatrebookprize@str.org.uk. Late entries can be accepted if the STR is notified in advance. The shortlist will be announced in May and the winner in June. The judging panel this year, which represents theatre critics, academia and theatre professionals, is Clive Davis, Dr Kate Dorney and Kevin Wilson. The panel will be chaired by STR committee member Howard Loxton.
