Currently on TV screens starring in the record-breaking ITV drama, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Julie Hesmondhalgh swaps the small screen for the stage for performances of her autobiographical one-woman show These I Love, first at the Octagon in Bolton (February 12-16), then for two performances at Live Theatre Newcastle (March 1-2).
Julie is a passionate supporter of regional theatre and is contributing her show to support the venues.
Returning to her Lancashire roots, These I Love is a journey of rediscovery - back to her working-class childhood in Accrington, to her father, and to the "healing power of daftness".
She has had a distinguished career spanning four decades, first as Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street for 16 years. Since then she has appeared in some of the UK’s biggest TV shows, including Happy Valley, Broadchurch and Doctor Who and is currently receiving praise for her role in ITV’s Mr Bates vs The Post Office, the drama about the scandal that has shaken the nation.
Julie also has an extensive list of theatre credits, including Manchester's Royal Exchange, Oldham Coliseum, Liverpool Playhouse and Leeds Playhouse. This will be her Octagon debut.
“I'm incredibly excited to be performing at the Octagon," she said. "I've been an avid attender here for many years, so to be bringing my show and supporting the venue is wonderful.”
Octagon artistic director Lotte Wakeham added: “Like most people, I’ve been watching her incredible performance in Mr Bates Vs The Post Office and can’t wait for our audiences to witness her brilliant acting and writing skills live on stage."
