The Olivier Award-winning, "reimagined" London production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s musical Jesus Christ Superstar continues to tour this year with northern dates at The Lowry, Salford (May 21-25); Venue Cymru, Llandudno (July 1-6, with Julian Clary as Herod Thursday-Saturday) and Blackpool Winter Gardens (August 12-17).
This production originated at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and won the 2017 Olivier award for best musical revival and the Evening Standard award for best musical. The original 1970s London production ran for over eight years, the longest-running musical in West End history at the time.
The show is set during the final weeks in the life of Christ, as seen through the eyes of his disciple, Judas. The score includes I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane and Superstar.
The current tour cast includes Ian McIntosh (Jesus), Shem Omari James (Judas) and Hannah Richardson (Mary). They are joined by Ryan O’Donnell (Pilate), Jad Habchi (Caiaphas) and Matt Bateman (Annas).
