JB Shorts 25th anniversary

Poster for JB Shorts festival

After 24 sell-out seasons and 138 premieres, JB Shorts is back at Manchester city centre's 53two venue (October 9-19), celebrating its 25th season with six more works featuring casts that include former Coronation Street regulars Vicky Binns and Krissi Bohn.

The backstage team includes prolific TV writer Rebekah Harrison (Casualty, EastEnders, Holby City), making her JB Shorts debut with You Can’t Kill The Spirit, a bite-size musical set in 1981, about the Greenham Common airbase protests. Shorts veterans James Quinn and Dave Simpson also reunite, with James directing Dave’s dark comedy Who’s The Dummy?, a tale of a ventriloquist forced to choose between his dummy and his wife, and featuring Vicky Binns as Sunny the dummy.

The other plays are:

Railway Sleepers by Peter Kerry. On a train journey, Frank and Esther discover the unexpected joys

of text.

The Exact Spot by Trevor Suthers. Michael and Jack delve into their past, but are they about to

disappear into the world of the fairies?

Erotic Novel Gone Wrong by Zoe Iqbal. A primary school teacher embarks on an unexpected new career

path, with wild consequences.

Hens, by Diane Whitley & Lindsay Williams. The girls are off to Spain, and nothing is going to stop them!
