Huddersfield’s Lawrence Batley Theatre is one of 14 small theatres awarded £69,000 from the Theatre Trust’s Small Grants programme. The first round of grants by the trust – supported by the Linbury Trust – awarded up to £5,000 so theatres could carry out small capital works. Other recipients also include Yorkshire’s Pateley Playhouse and the Romiley Little Theatre in Stockport. LBT, based since 1994 in a converted Victorian Methodist mission hall, will use the money to help pay for works to improve the theatre’s accessibility. The dressing room for the main stage will be more accessible, house lighting will be upgraded and there will be a new learning and participation space. The Pateley Playhouse in Harrogate and the Romiley Little Theatre, both home to amateur theatre companies, will use the money to help install a lift for the auditorium (Pateley) and to install more efficient heating (Stockport).
