A new stage version of Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 film thriller North By Northwest, adapted and directed by Emma Rice with her Wise Children company, opens at York Theatre Royal March 18-April 5, 2025, before moving on to HOME, Manchester, April 29-May 10 and Liverpool Playhouse, May 20-24.
Roger Thornhill, reluctant hero of North by Northwest, is mistaken for someone else when a mistimed phone call to his mother lands him smack bang in the middle of a Cold War conspiracy. Now he’s on the run, dodging spies, airplanes and a femme fatale who might not be all she seems.
With just six shape-shifting performers, a ‘50s soundtrack and a lot of hats, expect a show much inline with previous from this source that included Malory Towers, Wuthering Heights and most recently Bluebeard.
Emma Rice’s production of Wuthering Heights, seen in York in 2021, has completed UK and US tours and is now taking producer York Theatre Royal's name around the world with an international tour to Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
