Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre 2021 season now on sale

Chester Storyhouse has announced plans for an extended Grosvenor Park open-air season.

The theatre will open on Saturday, May 29 until August 30 – with 110 shows between the late May and August bank holidays.

Children’s classic The Jungle Book (May 29-Aug 30) and Shakespeare’s farce The Merry Wives of Windsor (Jun 4-Aug 30) will be performed alongside Jane Austen’s romantic comedy Pride and Prejudice (Jul 9-Aug 30).

Storyhouse artistic director Alex Clifton said: “Merry Wives is a show that demands you just turn off, sit back and giggle – it’s what we all need this year! Pride and Prejudice will hit all the sweet spots, while for kids and the young at heart The Jungle Book will be full of music, heart and a great homecoming story.”

Tickets are on sale to Storyhouse Card members until Easter Monday, with prices from £26.50. Tickets will go on general sale after that at £28.

The Open Air Theatre staged just about the only full-sized theatre show in the UK last summer and scored a huge hit with A Comedy of Errors, which sold out in a week. A similar rush for tickets is expected this year, which is partly why the season length has been doubled; the other being no clear indication that restrictions will be lifted in June.
