Graduating actors from Leeds Conservatoire are to perform in a double-bill of Shakespeare classics on Leeds Playhouse's epic main stage.

Twelve students will be performing in edited productions of Romeo and Juliet, on October 12, and As You Like It on October 14.

Sameena Hussain, director of Romeo and Juliet, said: “It’s such a humbling experience to play a part in their learning and a privilege to be able to watch them transition from student to professional."

The 90-minute productions mark the start of the second year of a continuing partnership between Leeds Playhouse and Leeds Conservatoire, which are close neighbours on the city's Quarry Hill.

As well as programming an annual Shakespeare performance by graduating drama students, the partnership includes an MA in Dramaturgy and gives students the chance to gain practical experience in the working theatre alongside the Playhouse’s professional team.
