Golden ticket for Chocolate Factory auditions

Leeds Playhouse is launching an open casting session to find four young people to play the leading role of Charlie Bucket in its Christmas show Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – The Musical.

The talented quartet will take on the mantle of the child who finds a golden ticket that takes him into the mysterious world of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

The role requires energy and endurance over a long run from November 18 to January 28, 2023 and candidates must be fully available for rehearsals from August.

They must be 9-12 years old, under 5ft tall and live within an hour’s commute of Leeds centre, but this is a paid role and the Playhouse welcomes young people of all genders to audition.

Leeds Playhouse artistic director James Brining, who will be directing the production, said: “This is such a special story. Charlie is such a fantastic role, a big role that is going to require stamina and determination. But from the young people I have worked with before here at the Playhouse, I know we’ll find our Charlie.

“We welcome young people to audition, and encourage everyone interested and who fits the brief to apply – even if they don’t have previous acting experience.”

Don't apply if you can't be available for all rehearsals and performances from August to the end of January. The four eventually cast will share the role throughout the run, which will involve time off school. Those selected must also be prepared to be licensed to be able to participate.

Register your details by March 28 with children's casting directors Keston & Keston at their website, or from their iOS app. You can also email here.
