Bradford has been named the UK City of Culture for next year and to mark the title, Les Girafes are taking over the city this Bank Holiday weekend.
Saturday will see a herd of seven giant puppet giraffes - each eight metres tall - in the city centre (4pm-5pm). The free family event comes courtesy of French street theatre company Compagnie OFF, and is part of Bradford's programme of events offering a flavour of what is to come next year. The animals will snake through the city centre from Darley Street Market to City Park. The circus company will wow crowds with a performance featuring not only giraffes, but also dancing, theatrics and even opera.
Bradford is creating opportunities for local people to get involved in net year's City of Culture celebrations. Local people will help to guide the giraffes through Bradford city centre and interact with the crowds.
