Gemma to leave Liverpool laughing

Popular Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse artistic director Gemma Bodinetz will leave her role on a high - by directing the theatre’s Christmas show.

The theatres will reopen in November and Bodinetz, who has been artistic director for 17 years, will bow-out with the Christmas production, A Christmas Carol (December 4-27), adapted by former National Theatre of Brent star Patrick Barlow.

“Patrick Barlow’s version of the story has the same invention he brought to The 39 Steps,” Gemma explained. “This Christmas, more than any other, will remember the importance of human connection and goodwill to all.”

Socially-distanced attendance and other Covid-19 measures will be in place. Tickets go on sale on October 22. More info here when the theatre makes it available.

The Playhouse’s sister Everyman theatre Christmas show, Rock ‘n’ Roll Robin Hood, was recently postponed until next year.
