LIZZIE, the grisly story of Lizzie Borden, the American girl accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in the late summer of 1892, returns to Manchester's Hope Mill Theatre this autumn.
The rock musical, which originated at the theatre last year before touring, has already been extended by a week (now October 17-November 17).
The show will star Kayleigh McKnight (SIX, Jesus Christ Superstar) as Lizzie, with Katie Tonkinson (Bonnie & Clyde, Bat Out of Hell) as Alice; Jennifer Caldwell as Bridget and Emilie Louise Israel as Emma. Completing the cast will be Emma Louise Hoey and Eve Kitchingman.
The show, which premiered on Broadway in 2009, delves into Lizzie’s complex psyche and speculates on her possible motivations: everything from the loss of inheritance and history of sexual abuse to oppression and madness. Not that she was convicted of the crime...
LIZZIE will be directed and choreographed by Hope Mill co-founder William Whelton, who said: "Lizzie is a story of female empowerment and the talent we have assembled is off the scale. I know these power-house female performers will blow the roof off the Hope Mill Theatre."
Since the 2009 premiere, LIZZIE has swung her axe in over 60 cities in six countries and in five languages across four continents, and has been honoured with dozens of awards including eight "best musical" awards.
