Taking to the UK touring circuit for a six-month, 24-venue workout, the 2022 re-run of Kay Mellor’s Fat Friends The Musical boasts a cast that includes Sherrie Hewson, Jessica Ellis, Les Dennis and Lee Mead.
Based on her TV show of 20 years ago, about the members of a Leeds-based slimming club, Mellor has written both the book and lyrics for the musical incarnation while the score is by – yes, he’s the son of – Nick Lloyd Webber.
Cutting out the carbs first in a post-festive Sheffield, the tour starts at The Lyceum (Jan 31-Feb 5). Other dates include Leeds Grand (Feb 21–March 5), Liverpool Empire (May 23–28); Bradford Alhambra) May 30-June 4) and The Lowry, Salford (June 6–11).
