Oldham-based company Dare to Know returns to Manchester venue 53two for its latest production, a new play by company co-founders, writer Jake Talbot and director Miranda Parker.
Their new play Broken Boys - at 53two (in Albion Street, Manchester) from August 21-24 - explores the mental health of older boys in school, and considers whether the ways boys talk to each other can be harmful. The drama examines what society means when we tell young men to ‘talk’.
The play features five older school students - the "Sad Sack" Group - all labelled as having mental health issues in some form. The lads are given free run of a classroom during a free period, as part of an initiative by the school to encourage them to talk to each other. Things don't end too well...
